Michael Onwenu's position for 2021 still remains a mystery

Towards the end of last season, Bill Belichick acknowledged the organization would need to make a decision on which position Michael Onwenu would play in 2021.

A guard-turned-tackle last year was one of the best rookies in the entire league, but now the Patriots have a need at guard with Joe Thuney leaving via free agency for Kansas City.

Speaking via Zoom Tuesday, Onwenu said he's been working at both guard and tackle during OTAs, which began this week.

"Wherever I am needed, that's where I am at," he said.

Based on that, it doesn't seem like the Patriots have made a call on where he will play this coming season.

As for how the OTAs, which began Monday, are going?

“The practices have been good," he said. "Everyone is getting back in synch, working together. It’s been a while since everyone has been together; it definitely feels good to be back out there, in helmets, working with my unit.”

Thursday's session will be open to the media.
