NESN’s Red Sox coverage this season will feature many familiar faces and a few new ones including Jonathan Papelbon, Kevin Youkilis, Ellis Burks and former American League MVP Mo Vaughn.
Papelbon, a six-time All-Star and Boston’s all-time saves leader with 219, will join host Tom Caron as part of a rotating crew of studio analysts on Red Sox pre and post-game coverage throughout the 2021 season. Youkilis, Papelbon’s teammate on Boston’s 2007 World Series team, will serve in a similar capacity along with fellow Sox alums Vaughn, Jim Rice, Tim Wakefield and Lenny Dinardo.
Play-by-play voice Dave O’Brien is back for his sixth season in the NESN broadcast booth alongside in-game color analysts Jerry Remy and Dennis Eckersley. Jahmai Webster will replace Guerin Austin, whose contract was not renewed after the 2020 season, as the Red Sox’s lead sideline reporter.
Burks will join the broadcast booth as a color commentator for some games while also contributing to pre- and postgame coverage.
The Red Sox, who have missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons following their World Series triumph in 2018, open their regular season April 1 against Baltimore. Manager Alex Cora has already confirmed left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (who missed last season due to heart issues brought on by COVID) as Boston’s Opening Day starter.
