The Patriots are clearly on the lookout for weapons to go with quarterback Mac Jones heading into the 2022 season. This reality was surfaced over the weekend with the team's reported interest in Robby Anderson.
The 28-year-old Anderson has two year left on his current deal, with cap hits of $16.8 million and $15.8 million, respectively.
As it was pointed out by MassLive.com, the Patriots have shown interest in Anderson before, taking a run at the wideout in 2020.
"When I was in free agency, when (Belichick) tried to get me to sign there, he was like ‘I’m tired of scheming against you. I’m tired of going against you,’" Anderson said.
Anderson has spent the last two years in Carolina after beginning his career with four seasons with the Jets. In 2020, he hauled in 95 catches for 1,096 yards and three touchdowns. Last season he totaled 53 catches and 519 yards while enduring quarterback chaos with the Panthers.
