The New England Patriots have made a trade, reportedly dealing linebacker Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport was the first to report the move, which was later confirmed by the team.
Uche has played seven games this season (one start) and recorded 13 tackles and two sacks. He was a healthy scratch for Sunday's win over the New York Jets, likely to protect him from injury knowing there was a trade on the horizon.
Uche, 26, had a breakout season back in 2022, when he had 11.5 sacks, but he hasn't been able to get back to that level in the two years since, registering just five sacks in his last 22 games. Uche signed a one-year, $3 million "prove-it" contract before this season.
How much of a role Uche will have in Kansas City remains to be seen, but he now moves to the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL. The Chiefs improved to 7-0 with a 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5, a week from Tuesday. Stay tuned to WEEI for full coverage of any other moves the Patriots make between now and then.
