Let the draft pick trading begin. The Patriots and Texans are getting a head start on moving around the draft board, reportedly striking a deal involving late-round picks on Monday, three days before the 2022 NFL Draft begins Thursday night.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, New England is sending a fifth-round pick to Houston in exchange for a sixth- and seventh-round pick.

The Patriots had two fifth-round picks prior to the trade, neither of which was their own. They acquired one of them (170 overall) from Tampa Bay for Shaq Mason, and the other (158 overall) came from Miami in the DeVante Parker trade. The Patriots sent their own fifth to Las Vegas for Trent Brown last year.

The Texans, meanwhile, had three sixth-round picks (Nos. 183, 205 and 207 overall). According to ESPN's Field Yates, it'll be pick No. 170 that the Patriots send to Houston, with 183 and 245 coming back to New England.

UPDATE: The trade is now official.

The Patriots now have one first-round pick, one second-round pick, one third-round pick, one fourth-round pick, one fifth-round pick, three sixth-round picks, and one seventh-round pick.

The Texans, meanwhile, now have two firsts, a second, two thirds, two fourths, one fifth, and two sixths.

Of course, there is plenty of familiarity between these front offices. Texans general manager Nick Caserio spent 20 years in the Patriots organization working with Bill Belichick prior to taking the Houston job in Jan. 2021.
