The Red Sox are getting a familiar face.

After triggering his opt-out from Triple-A Worcester Tuesday, Brandon Workman will be remaining in the Red Sox organization thanks to the big league club's decision to add the reliever to its 26-man roster.

To make room the Red Sox designated Colten Brewer for assignment.

Workman had been solid in his brief stint with Worcester, not allowing a run in six straight appearances while giving up just two hits during that span. The organization wanted to prioritize the 33-year-old working on his cutter, a pitch that he had gone away from during his short stay with the Cubs earlier this season. Workman's fastball velocity also has been reportedly between 90-92 mph.

The last time Workman performed in a Red Sox uniform was Aug. 19, with the former closer being traded along with Heath Hembree for Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold the next day.
