The Red Sox may have finally found some offseason momentum.
After numerous swings and misses, the Sox have reportedly inched closer to locking up former Dodgers infielder Enrique Hernandez.
The energetic Hernandez was a valued part of the Dodgers' 2020 world championship team, serving as one of Los Angeles' two second basemen throughout their postseason run.
Hernandez' most notable contributions in the playoffs came in the National League Championship Series when the 29-year-old, hitting a game-tying solo homer in the Dodgers' Game 7 win. Three years earlier, the infielder managed three home runs in one NLCS game, including a grand slam.
A native of Puerto Rico, Hernandez is familiar with Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who chose him to play second base for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic while serving as the team's general manager.
During the 2020 regular season Hernandez played the majority of his games (30) at second base, while also manning the outfield in 17 contests. He has been an everyday player for the Dodgers the last three seasons, with 2018 serving as his best year (.806 OPS, 20 home runs).
A right-handed hitter, Hernandez has hit 41 points higher against lefty pitching (.263) than right-handers.
