6 rings: Patriots vs. Colts Week 10 Preview

The Patriots traveled overnight Thursday into Friday and arrived in Frankfurt, Germany around 8 a.m. (CET - Central European Time) and, according to running back Rhamondre Stevenson, were told not to nap after getting off of the flight so that they can stay on ‘German time’ and be tired tonight.

Head coach Bill Belichick spoke to the media at 1:30 p.m. CET (7 a.m. EST) and was in quite the good mood compared to how he’s been previously this season. Here’s what we learned about where the team’s at ahead of their matchup against the Colts on Sunday:

On how he stay motivated amid a 2-7 start to the season:

“I mean I enjoy it. I enjoy all aspects of it. The preparation, the team-building, the competitiveness of Sundays. The guys that I work with, the staff, the players, it’s a great environment. Ownership. Everybody works together and tries to work toward a common goal and, it honestly, it beats working. I enjoy it.”

On the Patriots’ former German players Sebastian Vollmer, Jakob Johnson, and Markus Kuhn:

“I learned that when they were saying things under their breath in German it probably wasn’t complimentary (laughs). No, they were all great to coach, I mean I loved all three of those players. As you said, Markus we didn’t have very long with his injury but Seabass we drafted, had a great career with us, and Jakob came as an international player and developed into a solid NFL player who’s had a great career. Those guys are all, all three of them vey hard working, smart, great teammates, good team players, very unselfish, and honestly a pleasure to coach.”

On if Trent Brown’s absence in Germany is due to “personal reasons” or his ankle injury:

“Both.”

On if J.C. Jackson will be available after the team’s trip to Germany:

“I think he’ll be available. Yeah, he’s not on the trip.”

On what went into the decision to not have Jackson travel:

“That… um… I mean that was the decision, I’m not going to go into it.”

On rookie WR Kayshon Boutte:

“We’ll see how all that goes. I mean Kayshon’s had a good couple of weeks here, so it’s definitely trending in the right direction. That’s been good.”

On the Patriots’ fans in Germany:

“We’ll see. It’s great. Hopefully we give them a lot to cheer about.”
