While it has been no secret that Fleetwood Mac members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have had their fair share of Rock & Roll relationship drama over the course of their careers, drummer Mick Fleetwood is still holding a candle for a possible reconciliation.

From their early days as a romantic couple to their bitter breakup and subsequent years of creative tension, The duo had together been through an early romance, a nasty breakup, and creative struggles -- all of which helped inspire some of Rock’s most beloved songs -- and after almost 50-years drummer Mick Fleetwood still holds out hope for peace between his bandmates.

“It’s no tittle-tattle,” Fleetwood says in a recent interview with MOJO, “that there is a brick wall there emotionally.”

“Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey. But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily,” he added.

After joining Fleetwood Mac in the mid-seventies, Buckingham and Nicks ended their romance just as they began recording Rumours, and remained part of the band until 1987 when Buckingham chose to leave, followed by Nicks in 1990. Though a reunion did happen in 1997, Buckingham was fired from the group in 2018. For his part, Buckingham placed all of the blame on Nicks at the time, saying his ouster was “all Stevie’s doing,” however Nicks contended that she left on her own accord due to a “toxic” situation.

Fast-forward to 2022 following the passing of longtime member Christine McVie, both Mick and Stevie have said they would not be interested in reuniting the band again without her. “Without Christine, no can do,” Nicks previously told MOJO. “There is no chance of putting Fleetwood Mac back together in any way. Without her, it just couldn’t work.”

Fleetwood agreed with that sentiment, saying in February of 2023 that he had drawn “a line in the sand” over the idea of reuniting without McVie, but would be happy they could get along for possible future projects. “It’s been a strange time for me,” he says. “Losing sweet Christine was catastrophic. And then, in my world, sort of losing the band too. And I [split] with my partner as well. I just found myself sort of licking my wounds.” Mick added at the time that despite any challenges, he’d rejoin the band “in a heartbeat” if given a chance.
