CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Camden County's new sustainability education center opened Saturday morning, with an all-day party to celebrate the occasion.
The complex is still a work in progress, but the main building is open. Classes will soon begin, teaching residents how to get the most out of their properties with sustainability in mind.
Helen from Sicklerville went on a bit of a shopping spree at the vendor tables.
"I bought a bottle of wine. I bought some of the organic fertilizer. I'm going to get a pizza. I'm going to get a pretzel," she told KYW Newsradio. "I think it's just a great event. And it's so organized."
All of the plants on sale were grown by volunteers in the on-site greenhouses.
For Commissioner Jon Young, getting the project finised has been a labor of love. "It’s the end of one journey and the beginning of the complex," he said.
Young said there will be more to come at the facility, including an amphitheater.
