Gas prices reach more than $5 a gallon in Philadelphia area

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The latest gas prices have us pinching pennies at the pump.

Last month, prices broke records for the highest on average — but the latest numbers even surpass those rates, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic.

As of Tuesday, the average price rose to $5.08 a gallon in the five-county Philadelphia region — up 3 cents overnight and 24 cents in the last week.

New Jersey is near the same, at $5.01. The South Jersey region, in particular, is averaging $4.98.

Pennsylvania prices rose 22 cents from last week, up to $4.98. Delaware saw the highest weekly jump — up 33 cents, from $4.60 to $4.93.

National prices have reached $4.91 — also the highest average record. This time a year ago, gas was $3.05.
