PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Protesters took to Market Street in Center City Philadelphia Tuesday evening, marching against the drafted opinion in a leaked Supreme Court document that puts the future of Roe vs. Wade up in the air.

“Our body, our choice! Our body, our choice!” said hundreds of protesters like Skyler Goodman who attended an abortion rights march that culminated in a rally at Philadelphia City Hall. The protests led to a shutdown of Market Street.

“This is just something that has been a conversation my entire life even though I’m only 22 years old. This is something that was settled way back before I was even a thought,” said Goodman, who is from Philadelphia.

“Here we are, still talking about it. And now it went from a conversation to ‘it’s real.’”

Starting at 6th and Market, rally-goers walked west on Market Street to City Hall, where hundreds of other people joined.

They were protesting the drafted opinion by Justice Samuel Alito, leaked to Politico, that shows the Supreme Court could overturn Roe vs. Wade and leave the decision about the legality of abortion to individual states.

“Even if you do think abortion should be reduced, this is a cruel and unacceptable way of attempting to achieve that goal,” said Amanda Gilmore, who is also from Philadelphia.

Liz Matt, from Cinnaminson, said Roe v. Wade was enacted after she was out of college.

"I carry a sign that says 'We believed it was settled law,'" she said. "That's why this upsets me so much. It should be settled law."

This initial draft is not a final decision on the matter, and Supreme Court justice opinions can change in the drafting process.
