PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philly's own Quinta Brunson is getting a huge honor from her hometown.

The Emmy-award winning creator and star of ABC's "Abbott Elementary" will receive a key to the City of Philadelphia during a mural dedication ceremony at Andrew Hamilton Elementary School, the very school that inspired her hit sitcom.

The event on Wednesday, May 28 will unveil a new mural, titled “Blooming Futures” and created from input from school students and staff.

Brunson named her series after her sixth grade teacher, Joyce Abbott, who taught at Hamilton for more than 25 years. Abbott has also been honored by the city for her years of service. Last year, the city renamed the section of 59th Street at Lancaster Avenue — where her own alma mater, Overbrook High School, is located — after her, calling it Joyce Abbott Way.

The actress and comedian said she was honored to give back to the city that shaped her.
