PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have identified a 24-year-old Delaware County woman who was killed during an early-morning triple shooting in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city.
Authorities said Wednesday afternoon that Chaundrah Jones, 24 from Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, was killed during the triple shooting.
The sun rose Wednesday morning on a team of homicide detectives and crime scene investigators at 33rd and Diamond Streets, where a there is a white Volkswagen SUV with the driver's side window blown out and bullet holes all over. Beyond it was a white BMW that appeared to be shot up as well. A third car was further down 33rd Street at Monument Street.
This was all directly across the street from a playground in Fairmount Park.
According to police, the shooting happened about 2 a.m. They say Jones was shot twice. Two other women, ages 26 and 32, were shot several times each, but they were in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
Police say the three women left a bar together before the shooting.
Deputy Commissioner Ben Naish said they did not have a motive yet, but believe they were targeted.
"Two of the women were inside of one car. The other young lady was inside of a separate vehicle, and for reasons that are unknown at this point, two shooters got out of a vehicle we believe followed our victim's car and opened fire on both of the cars," said Naish.
"We do believe there was something that occurred involving their connection, or the connection to the bar, that led to someone following them. All indications are they were followed, and then when the vehicle was stopped, the shooters got out of another vehicle and opened fire on them."
Jones was a mother of two children. No one was initially arrested.
This latest instance of gun violence adds to the city's grim homicide count: 408 people have been killed so far this year.
