If there’s anything we know about the Eagles, it’s that their fans aren’t to be trifled with, defending their city with the fervor of a mama bear protecting its cubs. Not wanting to push its luck, Big Charlie’s Saloon, the rare safe haven for Chiefs fans within Philadelphia (hence it’s moniker “Arrowhead East”), decided it wasn’t worth the hassle, wisely closing shop for Super Bowl LVII. Still, that hasn’t stopped others from tempting fate, including this brash camera operator who thought it would be a good idea to wear a Chiefs hat to Friday night’s game at Wells Fargo Center, where the Sixers would score a decisive win over the Knicks, beating their division rival on the strength of Joel Embiid’s 35 points on 14-of-18 shooting.
It takes stones to wear Chiefs regalia on this of all weekends, in open defiance of a team and city that already has a boulder-sized chip on its shoulder. Poking the bear didn’t work out particularly well for the Niners, whose fans defaced the most sacred of Philly landmarks, only to be obliterated in the conference championship. You’d think the message would have sunk in by now but apparently not with vandals again adorning Rocky in enemy colors, playing with fire by antagonizing a fanbase that will use any perceived slight as bulletin-board material.
The Eagles will look to finish what they started when the NFC Champs oppose Kansas City Sunday in Arizona with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 PM ET on Fox. These teams most recently met in 2021 with the Chiefs holding court in a 42-30 slugfest at Lincoln Financial Field. Of course, that was before the Eagles acquired A.J. Brown, their leading receiver this year with 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns.
