Heated debate ensues on WIP Mornings over whether Jalen Hurts could keep Eagles from title

The WIP Mornings show kicked off with a heated debate on Wednesday, as Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie went at it after Joe posed the question if Eagles fans should be worried that Jalen Hurts will hold the team back from winning a Super Bowl in 2024.

“Now that the likelihood of getting there has increased, do you worry about Jalen holding the Eagles back from winning it all?” Joe began.

“It’s a worthy conversation. The team is good enough to win the Super Bowl, and Jalen has a shot to help them win it - or, like Donovan [McNabb] - did not.”

Jon immediately sounded off on the idea that Hurts will be a liability, as he believes he would rather have Hurts than any other quarterback in the league outside of Patrick Mahomes with the Eagles’ current roster.

“This is so skewed. I do not support this idea,” Jon said. “I don’t feel this way at all! I can’t believe we’re putting this out there so matter-of-factly...this is way too over the top man. Jalen is an elite NFL quarterback in a league where the run has taken priority.”

Jon accused Joe of “sneezing at” Hurts’ improvement as a runner and the impact it has on the offense, but Joe says the lack of throwing could be something that bites the Eagles deep in the playoffs.

“I do worry about it,” Joe said. “He deserves a tremendous amount of credit for playing a lot better lately. It’s not to the extent where he should be an MVP candidate...but how about more than 11 completions for 118 yards?”

Jon has no worries at all about the throwing volume, given the dynamic nature of the run game with Saquon Barkley in the backfield.

“This offensive line and this running back means that we are going to go and knock on the Super Bowl’s door,” Jon said. “And if everything goes as planned, we’re gonna do great things!”
