Jon Ritchie and Rhea Hughes got into a heated debate on Wednesday morning when arguing the level of blame Daryl Morey deserves for the current state of the 76ers.
Jon sided with Morey, sympathizing with the situation he came into when he took the job after the Sixers had drafted the likes of Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz.
“Look at the situation Daryl Morey came into when he became general manager of the team, and what he had to climb out of…it was a dumpster fire,” Jon said. “I don’t know what else you could have expected. He was hamstrung.”
Rhea, on the other hand, believes Morey gets away with far too much and somehow avoids criticism for a team that continuously falters in the second round, and brought in James Harden, who now is likely going to be traded yet again.
“He brought him here!” Rhea said of Harden. “You’re acting like that was the best deal out there. I don’t think it was. I do not get this literal love for Daryl Morey. I really don’t. I look at a guy like Howie Roseman who gets crushed every other four months, when this guy has actually won a championship.
“Daryl Morey rarely gets crushed. Rarely…he skates all the time.”
Jon isn’t ready to crush the Harden trade, especially because of who the Sixers were able to unload as a result.
“He got rid of Ben Simmons, which was a Herculean task at the time,” Jon said. “It’s OK to not be happy at where the Sixers are, but I think it’s unfair to blame Daryl Morey for the whole situation.”
