The Eagles were "very interested" in Bill Belichick and "could be at the front of the line" for him next year if Nick Sirianni is fired, according to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal.

Bedard says he is "now pretty convinced the Eagles" were the other team, along with the Atlanta Falcons, who back channeled and reached out to Belichick before the season ended.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, 72, is from Boston and grew up a New England Patriots fan and Belichick has a working relationship with current Eagles GM Howie Roseman, as well.

94WIP Eagles sideline reporter Howard Eskin, however, does not believe Lurie is a fan of Belichick.

"Are there good coaches available?" Eskin said on the January 16th 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas and Joe Giglio. "And Belicheat is not one of them. And I can tell you this for a fact, Jeff Lurie is not a fan of Belicheat. I can tell you that. I know that."

"I'm just trying to tell you, he's not the guy. He's not the guy they like. Howie is not going to make this decision. It's going to be a decision among everybody...I am positive that the owner is not a big fan, he's not a big fan. He's not the guy."

On Wednesday's 94WIP Midday Show, Joe Giglio—who believes the Eagles made a mistake by picking Sirianni over Belichick for 2024—threw out a theory on why there is something real here with the Eagles and Belichick.

"If I'm Jeff Lurie and Andy [Reid] is becoming the GOAT, I have to live with that. I fired the greatest coach of all-time. You know what's a way to stop that from being a reality? Hire Bill Belichick. If you hire Bill Belichick, Belichick breaks the [most regular seasons wins as an NFL coach] record here. He pushed further ahead of Reid. Maybe you win a Super Bowl with Bill Belichick here? It makes it harder for Andy to catch him."

Don Shula currently leads all NFL coaches with 328 regular season wins, followed by George Halas with 318, then Bill Belichick with 302, and Reid with 258.
