PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia Flyers will have new leadership at the very top.
Dave Scott is retiring as chairman of Comcast Spectacor, which owns the Flyers. Dan Hilferty, who became Comcast Spectacor’s CEO in February, will step into Scott’s role, which includes being the governor of the Flyers.
Hilferty played a role in Philadelphia becoming a host city for the 2026 World Cup. He also spent a decade as president and CEO of Independence Blue Cross.
Scott filled Flyers founder Ed Snider’s role after he died in 2016. In the seven seasons since Snider died, the Flyers have only made the playoffs twice, winning only one series.
The Flyers will miss the postseason for the third consecutive season, which hasn’t happened since the early ’90s.
