PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 2022 Philadelphia Eagles accomplished something most Eagles teams don’t. And yet, this team may not reach the folk hero level that could have been.
The Eagles won 14 regular-season games for the first time in franchise history — even though they had a 17th game to do so.
They had an emerging young quarterback in Jalen Hurts who played at an MVP level. His wide receivers, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, both collected more than 1,000 yards. His running back, Miles Sanders, ran for more than 1,000. And, the Eagles defense forced tons of turnovers while recording a franchise record in sacks.
Unfortunately, the Eagles blew a double-digit halftime lead in Super Bowl LVII and lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Birds missed the mark.
But should that take away from their overall impressive season?
This Super Bowl loss will go down as one of the biggest heartbreaks in franchise history. While Merrill Reese, the voice of the Eagles, says there’s still a lot to be proud of, Hall of Fame football writer Ray Didinger looks back on the game as a huge missed opportunity.
