If the Cowboys fail to sign Shaq Leonard, there’s a potentially nuclear scenario that could play out.

He could end up in Philly.

Leonard was cut by the Colts last week and is visiting the Cowboys on Tuesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning that Leonard "should be visiting" with the Eagles later this week.

A three-time First Team All-Pro, Leonard was sidelined for all but three games last season, and his snap counts this year were down compared to prior campaigns. His health is a big question mark in all of this, but it is at least conceivable he could latch on with a contender and make an impact.

Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones was asked Tuesday in his weekly appearance on Shan & RJ if the Eagles’ reported interest in Leonard presents a “don’t let him out of the building without a contract” situation.

“Doesn’t surprise me at all. I don’t know that you need to stop there,” Jones said. “There are probably several teams he can make a contribution to, and this thing probably does not have a financial aspect to it as far as competition between the teams. …

“We’ve got a pretty attractive situation for any player, because of not only the way we’re playing, but just the awe of the Cowboys and our fanbase and this area,” Jones later said. “This area is a tremendously attractive area for any player, and so many of these players come from within striking distance of Dallas.”

Leonard was born, raised and played college football at South Carolina. So as far as geography is concerned, the Cowboys nor the Eagles have a distinct advantage.

Jones said he expects to have lunch with Leonard on Tuesday.
