The latest edition of Jolly vs. Giglio was all about Saquon Barkley: if we get to Week 18 and he has a chance to break the single-season rushing record, but the Eagles’ seed is locked in – do you let him run for the record, or ease up and keep him healthy for the playoffs?
First, here’s part of Joe Giglio’s take, as he’s team run for the record:
“I think the Eagles should let sewn Barkley go for the record if he’s in striking distance – 100 yards or whatever, not 200, but close enough to where if he plays, he could certainly do it in Week 18. Even if everything's wrapped up, I would let Saquon Barkley rush for the record and put himself into the history books as the all-time leading rusher.”
And on the other side, Paul Jolovitz says it’s team over individual:
“Football is a team sport, Joe, and you can't take a risk on an injury. Records are cool if they're organic, and occur in the normal scheme of things – and I don't think Saquon would want it that way, he wants to let people eat. Do you let a guy for an individual record at the team’s expense? If he got hurt, you'd never hear the end of it. You never had a parade for a record, but you have parades for Super Bowl. No way.”
