Some good news on the injury front for the Eagles: left guard Landon Dickerson suffered a hyperextended right elbow late in the NFC Championship Game, but is expected to be ready for Super Bowl LVII.
The Inquirer’s Jeff McLane was the first to report the news, with NBC Sports Philadelphia later confirming via a league source.
Dickerson was hurt on the first play of the Eagles’ penultimate drive, as he had his right arm landed on and bent the wrong way while blocking on a Kenneth Gainwell run. He sat out the remainder of that drive and the Eagles’ final one – which Jason Kelce, Jalen Hurts, and Lane Johnson also sat out while the Birds ran out the clock – but was seen on the sidelines with a brace on the elbow, and was on the field for the team’s celebration.
The 24-year-old was the Eagles’ second-round pick last year, falling due to a slew of injuries over his college career including a torn ACL in the 2020 CFP Championship Game , but his versatility – he played center and both guard spots over his career at Alabama and Florida State – piqued the Eagles, and it has paid off.
Dickerson has settled in as the Eagles’ left guard, and earned a Pro Bowl nod this year (all five Eagles linemen were either Pro Bowlers or alternates) after allowing just one sack, three QB hits, and 14 hurries in 1,059 snaps, a 98.4 efficiency rating according to Pro Football Focus.
The Eagles will need their No. 1 offensive line in top form in Super Bowl LVII as they go up against a pass rush led by All-Pro DT Chris Jones, who had 15.5 sacks this year and lines up more often than not on the right, meaning he’ll be going against Dickerson and Jordan Mailata.
