Spike warns Eagles fans to settle down with Super Bowl talk: 'It's not good for us'

As the Eagles ride their eight-game winning streak into Week 14, vibes are high in Philadelphia as the Birds took down the mighty Ravens and sit just one game behind the Lions for the top spot in the NFC.

With that winning streak and a win over a perennial Super Bowl contender comes high expectations that includes a potential title, and finishing the job that the 2022 team wasn’t able to do. But Spike Eskin warns that there should not be any Super Bowl talk right now.

“I gotta start by getting everybody in line,” Spike said. “I am incredibly excited that the Eagles have won eight games in a row, and that we are part of the class of the NFL...but talking about the Super Bowl after 12 games is too early. It’s not good for us, and it’s not good for the team.

“We did the same thing with the Phillies...and you know what? I think the team thought the same thing, everything fell apart during the season...and it was all because we were thinking of something months in advance.”

The Phillies looked like the best team in baseball in June, but hit a midseason swoon in which they never recovered from, bowing out in the NLDS to the Mets in just four games. Fans though the Phils were battle tested after losing in the World Series in 2022, but the 2024 team was never able to come close to the expectations it carried into the season and into the summer. With that in mind, Spike says now is a good time to manage expectations for the Eagles, and remember that there is a long way to go to get to New Orleans.

“They have five games left,” Spike said. “In those games are two playoff teams and three division games. There is a lot of season left. We’re still giving the ball to the running back 30 times a game, we have two starters in the backfield with concussions and aren’t playing. We have a quarterback who everyone is scared of throwing.

“I need the players to believe it. One game at a time.”
