Trea Turner's season of doom continued, as he had his worst game as a Phillie on Wednesday night in Miami.
Turner went 0-5 at the plate and then booted this ball in the bottom of the 11th inning that would've ended the game and gave the Phillies an 8-7 victory. Instead, they would go on to lose in 12 innings.
"Pretty disappointed, just I feel like, Obviously I'm the reason why we lost that game. Just frustrated," Turner said candidly after the game. "I only know one thing, just keep working and that's what I'm going to do.
"Hindsight is 20-20, make that play game is over. So, it's a play I gotta make."
The 30-year-old shortstop signed an 11-year deal worth $300 million this offseason and everyone is now asking one question: What should the Phillies do with him?
"He's hurting them right now, a lot," Joe DeCamara at the beginning of Thursday's 94WIP Morning Show. "He's really struggling in a way that few, supposedly, quality Philadelphia athletes have ever struggled—I mean ever, ever struggled!"
Back on June 2nd, 94WIP's Joe Giglio controversially stated that he would re-do Turner's contract if he could.
"This is gonna end poorly.’ I’m at the point after watching this guy for the first two months of the season…if I had the ability, I would undo the contract, and would give the Phillies the ability to spend the $300 million elsewhere.”
Turner is now slashing .237/.291/.370, all career lows, with just 10 home runs, 34 RBI, 115 strikeouts, and 13 errors committed in the field.
His Win Probability Added for an Offensive Player (WPA) is now -2.0. His previous career-low for a full season was 0.9.
