This fall has been incredibly dry so far. In an effort to help prevent brush fires, there are more than 2 dozen burn bans in effect across Virginia.
All open burning has been prohibited in Colonial Heights and Chesterfield, Henrico, Dinwiddie, Louisa and Hanover counties. The ban makes it illegal to burn brush, grass, leaves, trash, debris or any other flammable material.
Recreational burning (like fire pits) have not been banned in Chesterfield County but are discouraged. Henrico has also suspended all previously issued burn permits until the ban is lifted.
