Your next Uber driver could be a goldfish. No, REALLY! A group of scientists have taught a goldfish to drive.
The whole idea of the project was to see if fish could navigate on land and since fish need WATER to survive, they created a small robotic vehicle that they are calling an "F.O.V." or "Fish Operated Vehicle" It's basically a tank on wheels that the fish can control.
There is a special camera that looks down into the tank and translates the fish's moments into the movement of the vehicle. If the fish swam to one side of the tank, the whole robot would go in that direction and the whopping speed of one mile per hour.
The experiment tested whether the goldfish was really navigating the car to a certain spot by placing clearly visible targets on the wall outside the fishbowl. It took the goldfish a few days to learn how it all worked and just to make sure it wasn't a fluke or a super smart fish they taught six fish to drive. They say that the fish even showed an ability to get back on track after bumping into a wall or encountering fake targets.
