Ballerini took to social media to share the exciting news with fans as she revealed the title of the project, Patterns, along with the exact release date — October 25. Along with that, she also teased a brand new song from the tracklist titled, “Sorry Mom,” which will release August 9.
"What's a pattern? It's, like, a reoccurring sequence of the first thing you reach for, 'cause it's closest," Ballerini says in the clip revealing the title to fans. "It's the first thought you think, or first feeling you feel, or first response you say, first choice you make." She concludes, “I think that we make patterns so they don't make us.”
This project is Kelsea’s first since her highly successful, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, which dug deep into her emotions surrounding her highly publicized divorce from fellow Country artist, Morgan Evans. While her love life is in a much sweeter spot for the creation of Patterns, Ballerini said it isn’t solely “mushy gushy” love songs and is centered around the idea of “analyzing yourself and the people that you love the most in order to grow.”
"I think that people probably expect this really happy-go-lucky, love, mushy, gushy record from me. That's not the case," she told The Associated Press. "And I'm really proud of that. It would have been easy to, I think, just collect the really beautiful parts of my life that I've dusted off and found the last couple of years. But that's not the fullness of my experience."
Ballerini has already previewed the depth of the project with her new single, “Cowboys Cry Too,” feat. Noah Kahan and is ready to do so again with, “Sorry Mom,” Out August 9.
“It’s an intimate song,” she shared. “The first line is, ‘Sorry, mom, I smelled like cigarettes.’ You know, it’s the things that your mom doesn’t really want to hear. But then you get to the chorus and the meat of it and the heart of it, and it’s a letter of thanks to my mom for raising me the way she did.”
