“I get up in the morning and work out, I watch what I eat,” he said of the basic things he does every day to make sure he’s taking care of himself before revealing his #1 trick. “I sit in an ice tub a lot, I know that sounds strange,” he said before admitting, “If I didn’t do that, it would be a lot different.”
“What it does — for me, anyway — it just allows your body to recover from the night before or two nights before,” he explained. “And not only your body, but your brain. It’s such an intense couple of hours up there [on stage] that — especially if you do it the next night — the ice has a way of just resetting your whole body, resetting your brain and… just helps you recover, especially when you move as much up on stage as I do.”
Chesney fully credits the ice baths for keeping his youthful spirit alive on stage, and he means it quite literally. While discussing the importance he places on showing up for his fans each night with big energy, big hits and even bigger moments, Chesney said his stage presence is something he’s been practicing since he was a young child.
“My Mom has video footage of me… in my grandmothers kitchen,” he said revealing he has fond memories of dancing around her kitchen to music in his childhood years. “I saw a video of me dancing around in her kitchen to music and I said, ‘My God!’ I’ve watched enough video footage of me on stage and I move the exact same way as I did in my grandmother’s kitchen as a child,” he laughed.
