The latest internet debate has people rethinking the correct way to hang lights on a holiday tree.

Most people who partake in the fun holiday tradition simply wrap the lights around the tree until they reach the bottom, giving the tree a 360 degree glow.

A new viral TikTok video is now telling people that this way is wrong, suggesting that the lights should be put on the front of the tree instead of wrapping the lights all of the way around.

The controversy doesn’t end there. The video also suggests hanging the lights vertically instead of horizontally.

Instagram user Clare Hooper took to social media for a demonstration.

The new decorating methods involves starting at the bottom of the tree and placing the lights straight to the top, and then back to the bottom again until the entire front of the tree is filled.

The user claims that this method helps to not waste lights in the back, a tip that is not helpful for people with a tree near an exterior window.

She also claims that the method saves time when putting up the lights and when taking them down, and also makes replacing the lights easier in the case that any break during the holiday season.

US 101 RADIO hosts Mo & StyckMan took to their Facebook page on Sunday to ask fans if they wrap their lights vertically or horizontally. Most of the fans said that they still wrap their lights around the tree.

Only time will tell if this new holiday trend will catch on and stick around for years to come.
