Giants really set with Daniel Jones as starter for 2022? | Maggie & Perloff

During a press conference at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, New York Giants new general manager Joe Schoen was asked whether the team will bring in competition for Daniel Jones next season. Schoen told reporters that Jones is their starting quarterback "right now," and he also stressed the importance of finding a proper backup at the position.

Jones' third season in the NFL wasn't productive. Due to a season-ending neck injury, the 24-year-old played in only 11 games, and during the stretch, he threw for 2,428 yards with just 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. According to a recent ESPN report, the Giants aren't likely to pick up Jones' fifth-year option (estimated at $22.3 million) before the May deadline.

"When a GM drops a 'right now,' big caveat. He's our quarterback 'right now.' That's today, March 1," Maggie Gray said during the Maggie and Perloff show on Tuesday. "That's the wiggle room GM's give themselves when they may have other irons in the fire. Despite the fact the Giants aren't interesting, in terms of the roster, there still might be something appealing about the Giants, just because it's the big market...

"I have a sneaking suspicion the Giants are so desperate, they'd be the team to give up the three first-round picks to get [Russell] Wilson and to bring him here. Even though they have no offensive line, the weapons, we just went through it. They'd be desperate because they've been losing for so long, they have to do something to shake it up... They might not be [good enough for Wilson]. And maybe the market size, nobody cares."
