ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - In an exclusive interview with our partner radio station HOT 104.1, Vice President Kamala Harris discussed the importance of a new mass vaccination program set to begin in downtown St. Louis next week.
The first-of-its-kind program in our region will launch on April 7 and plans to operate for eight weeks at the Dome at America's Center. It'll be run by the state of Missouri and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with plans to vaccinate up to 3,000 people a day, seven days a week – for a total of 168,000 vaccinations.
"St. Louis is just too important and the bottom line is that there are a lot of good folks that live in St. Louis," Harris tells Afternoon Takeover with Derrick Greene on HOT 104.1. "St. Louis has a rich history of being such an important place in our country and we want to make sure that the folks that are there, that it's easy for you to get access to the vaccine."

Harris also talks about the need for people to continue to wash their hands, social distance and wear a face mask, and says to beat this virus it's going to take everyone working together.
"Folks got to get vaccinated. It'll save your lives, save the life of your family members and your community," Harris says. "And we have it within our power to make a decision about whether we get vaccinated or not."
She notes that President Joe Biden committed to 90 percent of adults in America getting a shot within five miles of their home.
