The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
Sgt. Maj. James G. Sartor, 40, of Teague, Texas, was killed in action Saturday in Faryab Province, Afghanistan, as a result of injuries sustained from enemy small arms fire during combat operations. This incident is under investigation.
Sartor was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahed said the group was behind Sartor's death.
The conflict in Afghanistan began in 2001. After nearly 18 years, it is America's longest war, in which over 2,400 American service members have died.
