Will Chesney and Cairo had a relationship that went beyond that of being a Navy SEAL and his military working dog. They were soulmates. “Cairo, he was more than just a dog,” Chesney told Connecting Vets.

And, Cairo was more than just the dog who made news around the world during the attack that took out terrorist leader Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in 2011. In his book “No Ordinary Dog,” Chesney tells the story of Cairo’s life before, during, and after that headlining-making raid. “Cairo was my dog and I was his dad,” Chesney writes in the book’s introduction. “I don’t use that term euphemistically. The relationship between a handler and a canine SEAL is profound and intimate. It goes well beyond friendship and the usual ties that bind man to dog.”
