Disgraced Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning was sent back to jail on Friday after refusing to testify before a federal grand jury looking into WikiLeaks.
Manning told reporters before walking into a federal courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia, that she was ready to be jailed again for her opposition to the jury, in part, because she doesn’t believe in the grand jury process.
“These secret proceedings tend to favor the government,” said Manning, according to the Washington Post. “I’m always willing to explain things publicly.”
Her principles did not move Judge Clause M. Hilton.
“I’ve found you in contempt,” said Hilton, adding she can expect to remain in custody “either until you purge yourself or the end of the life of the grand jury.”

The grand jury is investigating WikiLeaks, an anti-secrecy website that Manning provided with troves of classified documents and diplomatic cables she had access to in 2010. She served seven years of a 35-year prison sentence until President Barack Obama commuted her sentence in January 2017.

Julian Assange, the website’s founder, is charged in a case that remains under seal but is currently living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
