Moving from place to place every few years is just one challenge of living the military life.

For military spouses, finding a job is another.

ChenegaMIOS is making a consistent effort to assist military spouses as they pursue their professional career paths while supporting their service member. For its efforts, the organization has been named a 2020 Military Spouse Friendly Employer.

“Chenega has a long history of supporting and hiring veterans,”Carley Lawrence, vice president of communications, MIOS Strategic Business Unit Chenega Corporation explained. “And we have long recognized that military spouses often had challenges finding employment when they relocate.”

To be considered for the designation, Military Friendly looks at the policies, processes, resources, and investments that have the greatest impact on career opportunities and advancement for military spouses. In addition, the Military Spouse Friendly Employers survey takes a detailed look at the lifecycle of military spouse employees: what employers do to attract, hire, and develop them; as well as the policies and practices with which employers support them along the way.

Lawrence added that Chenega is a member of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership program, sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

“The program shares the best practices within the industry on hiring military spouses and building a program where participating spouses can transfer their employment to several locations or work remotely,” she said. “This facilitates a long-term employment opportunity for the spouses.”

To make transferring from location to location as seamless as possible, Chenega uses a network of subsidiary companies to evaluate where a military spouse’s skills might best be utilized, whether that’s in the United States or at overseas locations where they are likely to be transferred to.

“We have numerous employment locations throughout the U.S. and overseas, many of them co-located with military installations,”  Lawrence said.

Chenega currently employs 117 military spouses, she continued.

“We have found that military spouses are competent, adaptable, and highly motivated,” said Lawrence “They understand the mission and are willing to do their part so the organization’s goals are met.”
