1,100 pounds of marijuana.

That was the amount of pot that the crew of a Coast Guard cutter based in San Juan, Puerto Rico offloaded this week.

The interdiction, made by the crew of the William Trump, was the result of an international, multi-agency law enforcement collaboration in support of Operation Turks and Caicos, Operation Unified Resolve, Operation Caribbean Guard and Operation Martillo, according to a Coast Guard release.

"Through this time of uncertainty, Coast Guard crews remain vigilant and on watch to safeguard the American people from maritime threats," said Lt. Col. Johnston Ariail, the commanding officer of the Trump.

The seizure happened during a patrol when the cutter's crew spotted a suspicious vessel with two people aboard, the release said. When a small boat crew from the cutter approached the vessel, they saw bales of suspected contraband being thrown overboard.

In all, 37 bales of marijuana and 12 individual packages were recovered.
