In Italy, where the death rate is the highest outside of China, the Italian Army is helping to transport coffins from one of the hardest-hit cities, Bergamo, to remote cremation facilities throughout the country.

Nearly 3,000 Italians have died since the outbreak, and 35,000 had been infected as of March 19. Thus far, Bergamo has reported 93 deaths and 4,305 infected citizens. Their facilities, while operating 24/7, can only cremate 25 people a day, according to the Italian newspaper L’Ecio Di Bergamo.

A Reuters article said an Army spokesman confirmed 15 trucks and 50 soldiers had been deployed to move the bodies after officials in Bergamo appealed for help with the dead.

A Spanish base outside Madrid has converted a facility that normally makes pharmaceuticals for the military, and is now making paracetamol (known to Americans as Tylenol) and hand sanitizer.

According to Johns Hopkins University Medicine, there are over 236,000 cases of the coronavirus worldwide.

Meanwhile, Spain has asked its military to help with everything from taking supplies to citizens to helping clean train stations.
