Looking for somewhere to retire? Don't want to pay taxes on your retirement income? Georgia might be the state for you.
Proposed House Bill 7 — sponsored by Reps. Jesse Petrea, Bill Hitchens, Shaw Blackmon, and others — have proposed that military retirement income should no longer be subject to Georgia state income tax.
Retired Army veteran Tracy Burkholder, current commander of the VFW Post 658 said the bill would certainly be appreciated. With the taxes on his retirement pay, he can't afford to not work.
"I retired in 2002 and I can't live off my military retirement so I still work," Burkholder told WGXA. "Any money they want to throw back to us, absolutely, I would be glad to have that back."
Georgia would join nine other states that don't require veterans to pay state income tax on military retirement pay.
