
Hundreds of firefighters and police officers lined Interstate 95 just outside Washington, D.C Tuesday and offered a final salute as the funeral procession of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. and New York City firefighter Christopher Slutman made its way to Arlington National Cemetery.
Slutman, 43, was one of three service members killed by a roadside bomb that detonated just north of Bagram Air Base near Kabul, Afghanistan April 9, The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast.

Also killed as a result of the explosion were Cpl. Robert A. Hendricks, 25, of Locust Valley, NY and Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, 31, of York, Pa.

Slutman joined the New York City Fire Department in 2003 and was assigned to Ladder Company 17 in the South Bronx. He was honored for bravery in 2014 after rescuing an unconscious woman during a fire in the South Bronx. He transferred to Ladder Company 27 in 2015.
