With National Vietnam War Veterans Day right around the corner, one business is planning on extending a special thanks.
In barbecue form.
Vietnam vets can get a free sandwich on March 29 at all MISSION BBQ locations nationwide. That day isn’t random, it’s the date the very last combat troops left Vietnam in 1973.
“We wish to honor the brave men and women in service from that era, remember their history, and show our sincere appreciation,” the restaurant said.
“We thank them for their continued dedication and loyalty as well as the sacrifices they’ve made to keep our country free.”
MISSION BBQ opened its doors a decade to the day after 9/11. Today, the restaurant chain is slinging sauce, ribs, brisket, and sausage across 16 states east of the Mississippi River.

The chain’s founder, Bill Kraus, is the grandson of a World War 1 veteran and his father served in the Korean War. Service is in his blood, as both his sons currently service, one in the Marines and the other in the Army.

And while the free sandwich is a token of thanks, the barbecue joint has a strong veteran hiring program, providing America’s veterans with both delicious sustenance and a purpose.
