A former civilian Army employee worked with three alleged accomplices to steal millions of dollars from military members' bank accounts and in veterans' benefits payments. Thousands of service members and veterans were affected.

Fredrick Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada worked as a civilian medical records administrator for the U.S. Army at the 65th Medical Brigade, Yongsan Garrison, South Korea. From July 2014 to September 2015, Brown used a digital camera to take pictures of his computer screen with the names, social security numbers, DOD ID numbers, dates of birth, and contact information of thousands of service members and veterans displayed. He and his alleged accomplices then used that information to access bank accounts and veterans' benefits.

They succeeded in stealing millions of dollars.

Brown faces up to 20 years in federal prison for multiple conspiracy charges. He will remain in federal custody until his sentencing in Feb. 2020.

The Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs are coordinating with the Department of Justice to notify the thousands of identified victims. Resources will be provided to those individuals affected.
