No US casualties in Iran missile attack, preliminary reports say

Preliminary reports claim that no United States troops were killed in Iran's missile attack on two Iraqi bases last night according to several news outlets.Late last night President Donald Trump tweeted that "All is well!" 

At least six missiles hit al-Asad air base in western Iraq in retaliation for the U.S. killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. According to an Iraqi military statement, a total of 22 missiles were fired. 


While preliminary reports from the U.S. are showing no casualties, Iran has claimed that at least 80 U.S. troops were killed.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Javad Zarif stated in a tweet that Iran "took and concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens and senior officials were launched."

"We do not seek escalation or war, but will defend ourselves against any aggression," Zarif said.

However, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has said that more needs to be done to end the U.S. presence in the region and avenge Soleimani's death, according to the Washington Post

Last night's strike was Iran's most forward attack on America since the 1979 seizing of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Trump tweeted that he would be making a statement Wednesday morning.
