Two U.S. service members killed in helicopter crash in Afghanistan identified

The Department of Defense identified two U.S. service members who were killed in a helicopter crash on November 20, 2019, in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 David C. Knadle, 33, from Tarrant, Texas and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kirk T. Fuchigami Jr., 25, from Keaau, Hawaii were both killed when their helicopter crashed while providing security for troops on the ground. They were assigned to 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.


The crash is currently under investigation. 

Preliminary reports do not indicate the crash was caused by enemy fire, but the Taliban made a statement taking credit for downing the helicopter according to Associated Press. The U.S. military dismissed the Taliban's claims as false.
