Former MSNBC analyst Malcolm Nance announced in a tweet on Monday that he has joined the Ukrainian forces to help fight against the Russian invasion.
"I'm DONE talking. #JoinTheLegion #StopRussia #SlavaUkraini," Nance said in the tweet.
Nance appeared for an interview on MSNBC with host Joy Reid on Monday and explained why he decided to join the fight nearly a month ago.
"Well as you know, I spent quite a bit of time here in the pre-war period," Nance said. "And when the invasion happened, I had friends who were in Donets, who were in the Ukrainian army, who were writing to us and telling us, 'we're not going to survive tonight, we've been hit 500 times.' These graduates of Defense Language Institute , these are my friends.

"The more I saw of the war going on, the more I thought, 'I’m done talking, all right?' It’s time to take action here. So about a month ago I joined the International Legion here in Ukraine I am here to help this country fight, what essentially is a war of extermination. This is an existential war and Russia has brought it to these people and they are mass murdering civilians, and there are people here like me who are here to do something about it."
Nance is a former U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer and has gone on to become a bestselling author.
He also was the director of The Terror Asymmetrics Project on Strategy, Tactics and Radical Ideologies after his time with the Navy.
Nance no longer works for MSNBC as a foreign policy analyst, a company spokesperson confirmed to The Independent. He worked at the network since 2007 and appeared most recently on Feb. 28, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
