This winery designed a line of wines for WASPs

B52 Winery's name isn't its only tribute to military veterans — it has a whole line of wine named and labeled for WASPs.
B52 Winery is the second military veteran-themed establishment opened by Jeff Wescott, who also owns Lucky Girl Brewing. Both the brewery and winery feature a nostalgic atmosphere.
"The theme is a little bit more nostalgic than anything," Wescott said. "I guess as Americans we felt a whole lot better about ourselves as Americans. I like to tell people I beat Donald Trump to the 'Feel good about America' thing but he trademarked the phrase."
According to Wescott, he opened the winery to appeal to the 60 percent of women who don't drink beer — and they ended up appealing to women in more than one way.
While Lucky Girl Brewing features pin-up girl art labels, themes and drinks, Wescott and his wine-making team decided to turn their attention from the ladies on the planes to the ladies in the planes.
"These stories were amazing," said Ursula Cameron. Cameron and her husband are the wine-making team behind the WASP line of wines. "The deeper we researched the more amazing it became, and everyone we've shown it to — it's just resonated. They've loved the stories and we're really proud to be telling them."
From the Shirley syrah to the Libby G merlot, each wine label features a WASP and a little bit about WASP history.
"The stories of these women when I came across them just resonated, and I really wanted to tell their stories. I wanted the faces of these strong, brave, courageous women on the label," Cameron said.
B52 Winery's grand opening was this past Friday — 10 percent of all winery sales over the weekend went to the Air Zoo Educational Program and their expansion of a Women in Aviation and Space Exhibit. But even though the grand opening is over, Wescott and Cameron are already receiving requests for the wine from all over the country.
"How do we get these to California? I knew Betty. I must have some," one customer wrote in an email request.
"How do I order wine online? My daughter is a pilot and I'd love to buy her some for Christmas," read another.
B52 Winery is working on setting up an online store so pilots, women, and wine lovers across the country can honor WASPs with a glass of wine.
