The U.S. Army has named Spc. Jeremy Daniel Evans and Spc. Brian Joshua Snowden as the two soldiers who tragically lost their lives during a training event last week at the Yukon training area.

The training accident took place when 17 soldiers stationed at Fort Wainwright were riding on a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) while driving down a dirt road toward the Yukon training area.

"At some point, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and it flipped," Army spokesperson John Pennell stated.

Twelve of the 17 soldiers sustained injuries and had to be taken to a hospital in Anchorage. Evans and Snowden were both assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division.

Eight of the injured soldiers were treated and released on the day of the accident while two others were kept at the hospital for further treatment.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and fellow soldiers of Spc. Evans and Spc. Snowden," Maj. Gen. Brian Eifler, who commands the 11th Airborne Division said. "While we’re always challenged by the environment, we’re Arctic Angels, we overcome these challenges and accomplish our mission by being a team, and teams take care of one another, especially in times like these."
