A former Coast Guard lieutenant has been arrested for allegedly making threats to kill President Donald Trump.

In a 19-page FBI affidavit, Peter Stinson of Virginia is alleged to have made numerous social media threats against the president. Stinson, who served in the Coast Guard from 1988 to 2021, was a sharpshooter and also served as a Federal Emergency Management Agency instructor.

Charging documents quote social media posts, made from 2020 to 2025, including statements that suggested using a gun, a knife, and poison against Trump, according to CBS. Stinson allegedly wrote that while he didn't have the skills to kill the president himself, he said he would be willing to "serve in a support capacity" or raise money for a "contract hit."

According to Fox News, Stinson reportedly wrote in early May that Trump needed to be "[L]uigied." The post is an apparent reference to Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson last year.

Prosecutors allege Stinson made a series of menacing social media posts last week, including on Wednesday, writing, "When he dies, the party is going to be yuge," according to CBS.

Stinson was charged with making threats to kill the president and is slated to make an initial appearance in federal court on Wednesday. According to CBS, those charged with threatening a president can face up to five years in prison if convicted.
