
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WWJ) - A group Army Airborne soldiers waiting for a training exercise in North Carolina went viral on social media after they broke out in song made famous by a Detroit music group.
Members of the 82nd Airborne All American Chorus, based out of Fort Bragg, N.C., began singing an a cappella version of The Temptations' "My Girl" while geared up to jump at an airfield in Central North Carolina back in April.
A video of the moment was captured by Sgt. Kara Hall and shared to social media were it has gained over four million views on Facebook alone.
“The 82nd ABN DIV Chorus made my day today on the drop zone when I requested an old classic!” Kara Hall said on TikTok. “What made it better is that they were in harness jumping from a UH-60 (helicopter).”
The 82nd Airborne Division Association shared the video on Facebook, adding, "Nothing like the All American Chorus to get you moving!!!!"
The 82nd Airborne Division All-American Band and Chorus dates back to 1942 and provides music for occasions at Fort Bragg and "Telling the Army Story," the group's website states.
The song "My Girl" was recorded at Hitsville U.S.A., the first headquarters and studio for Motown Records in Detroit, Mich., and released in 1964 by The Temptations.
The melody was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White and became the group's first #1 single in the United States, NPR reported.
To this day, the "My Girl" remains one of The Temptations' signature songs.
