Back in May of 2024, the Army Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was informed that 31 M17 pistols were missing from an arms room. Later in the year, two sets of night vision goggles and one thermal optic also went missing from Fort Moore in Georgia.

"Army Criminal Investigations Division is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for credible information leading to the recovery of 31 missing M17 pistols, two Enhanced Night Vision Goggles (ENVG), and one AN/PAS 13D thermal optic, or for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for the theft(s)," an Army CID reward poster reads.

Weapons go missing from military arms rooms for a variety of reasons, some are legitimately lost by soldiers in the field, but in other cases, they are stolen. More often than not, those weapons are sold for profit, sometimes on the black market and other times by buyers who don't know what they're getting themselves into. The large number of pistols missing likely implies that this was no accident, and Army CID describes it as a theft.

The thefts occurred at Fort Moore's Crescenz Consolidated Equipment Pool which is managed by civilian contractors, meaning it is unlikely that an active duty service member was involved.

Those with additional information about the thefts can read CID at 706-917-9115.
